Sangeet Sadan Prakashan, a globally recognized publication, headquartered in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, was founded in the year 1956, by Pt. Harish Chandra Srivastava. The publication has been playing a prominent role in the learning and practice of Indian classical music for around 60 years. Our publication consists of some of the best and most renowned books in the classical music genre.

Pt. Harish Chandra Srivastava was born on December 30th 1930 in Allahabad to parents Bindbasni Prasand and Smt.Bhagirathi Devi. Second eldest among his seven siblings, he was the first one to carve a niche for himself in the field of Indian Classical Music. Following his footsteps, his younger brothers Pt. Girish Chandra Srivastava (popular Tabla Vadak) and Pt. Satish Chandra Srivastava (popular Sitar Vadak) established themselves in the music industry. Today, all three "Srivastava Brothers" are well known personalities in the Indian Classical Music scenario.

Pt. H.C. Srivastava completed his Masters in Philosophy from Allahabad University in the year 1953 and subsequently pursued M.A (Music Vocal), L.T. and Sangeet Praveen degrees. He received training for Vocals under the patronage of Pt. V.A. Kashalkar, Pt. V.N. Thakar and Pt. Bholanath Bhatt. During this learning and exploration phase Pt. Harish Chandra met Shree Joe Srivastava and was completely mesmerized with his violin playing skills and spent many years learning violin under his guidance. He also trained under Violinist Pt. G.N. Goswami for a brief period to understand the nuances of violin playing. Adding more wisdom to his persona Pt. Harish Chandra engrossed himself in-depth study of Sangeet Shastra under the counsel of Shree Mahesh Narayan Saxena (Former Director Prayag Sangeet Samiti Allahabad).

During this learning and training peregrination Pt. Harish Chandra realized the scarcity of good content in classical music books and thus began his eminent journey as an Author. Till now, his several articles have been published in reputed magazines and music journals across the country. He has over eighteen books to his credit (Author & Editor) which are also translated in various other languages. Some of his best sellers include Raag Parichay Series, Madur Swarlipi Series, Kathak Nritya Parichay, Sangeet Niband Sangreh, Sadabahar flimi geet and others. He also published and edited Quarterly Magazine "Sangeetika" consecutively for five years. For 20 years Pt. Harish Chandra served as the Head of Sangeet Shastra Department in Prayag Sangeet Samiti Allahabad. He also served as a teacher for 4 years in Postgraduate wing of Music & Art Department in the prestigious University of Allahabad.

Pt. Harish Chandra married Mrs.Kamalini Srivastava, who was an extremely talented violin player. She contributed immensely in her husband's journey of Sangeet Sadan Prakashan till 1996. The couple was blessed with four daughters, all well versed in Indian classical music & dance. After his sudden and sad demise on April 26, 2019 due to cardiac arrest, his business is handled by his two daughters and their husbands (Mrs Kiran Srivastava with Mr Rajesh Srivastava and Mrs Jayanti Khare with Mr Umesh Khare).
